WHAT EVERY CONSUMER OF FITNESS SERVICES SHOULD KNOW
After spending years in the fitness industry, we've answered some frequently asked questions.
If you still have questions please get in touch and we’ll answer them.
How is Perseverance different from other studios and gyms?
Perseverance is truly client focused. Every trainer at Perseverance holds a nationally recognized certification(s) in all areas of fitness they instruct. We are able to readily incorporate various components of Strength, Flexibility, Cardiovascular, Mat Pilates, Pilates Apparatus, Functional Training and Medical Fitness programming into your workout to give you the best results possible. Our Pilates equipment is top of the line and much more extensive than standard studios. We have: Reformer--converts to Cadillac-Tower, Ladder Barrell, High-Back Chair--converts to lo-chair, Spine correctors, 1/2 Barrels and plenty of props. We also assess our client needs when expanding our training equipment.

Perseverance also gives clients the option to pair their training services with an optional membership. We encourage clients to apply what you learned during sessions to maximize training results. Equally incentivizing, the private studio is large enough to meet your needs but small enough to maintain cleanliness and eliminate crowds.
How does someone become a personal trainer?
Truth be told anyone can become a certified personal trainer via online certification processes with little or no knowledge of the human body. Therefore, it is imperative that consumers understand the difference between a certification and a specialization. Certifications we prefer are those that are earned via proctored exams and recognized as reputable certifying organizations such as: NSCA, NASM, ACE, ACSM, & NPTI.
Professional Fitness Trainers provide clients with a purpose for each exercise and how it fits into the overall plan to improve function and fitness as one achieves their goals and embarks on new ones.
No pain, no gain: Truth or myth?
You probably already know, MYTH! More importantly, why? Pushing through an exercise that hurts is not a method to achieve results and can create greater issues immediately and over time. Moreover, it is unlikely you are achieving your goals if you are creating pain or increased discomfort.

A qualified fitness professional can help. They ensure biomechanical applications are incorporated to ensure that pain/discomfort during an exercise is addressed via modifications or a different, yet effective exercise is utilized. In some cases, a movement may be omitted altogether for the time being. In turn, clients learn to listen and respond to their body’s needs while continuing to pursue their goals.
What is a Medical Fitness Specialist?
A Medical Fitness practitioner has advanced specialization in prevention and management and chronic conditions such as orthopedic/post-physical rehabilitation, cardiac, pulmonary, women's health, autoimmune diseases, and other special populations as it relates to physical fitness. Medical Fitness Practitioners are required to successfully pass extensive coursework as well as complete continuing education to maintain specialization.
What do I do on the days I do not have a session with my trainer?
Trainers usually include many home-friendly exercises in their program making it easier to exercise in the absence of the trainer. Some clients purchase basic budget-friendly exercise equipment for home or join a local fitness center. Others will use items from home such as a gallon of water for weight or a tennis ball for self-myofascial release. Be sure to discuss equipment or other home based options with your fitness professional.
I am not a member, will I have time to warm-up and cool-down outside of my session time?
Absolutely! Perseverance understands the value of a solid training session. Once you and your trainer agree that you are ready to warm up and cool down on your own, we encourage clients to do so.
Do I have to pay monthly membership dues to work with my trainer?
We do not charge you a studio membership or other hidden fees to work with a fitness professional.
What do I wear?
The attire you choose is based on your comfort level. Our suggestions include:
-
Knee length or longer bottoms or compression shorts under shorts to be discreet (during Pilates sessions)
-
Loose fitting waistlines may require a drawstring/tie, especially for core workouts
-
Loose fitting necklines tend to be less discreet for females. Please be aware of layering options to your comfort level.
-
We kindly ask that all attendees practice proper hygiene and wear clean clothing.

Can you explain how the complimentary 30-minute consultation works
The consultation does not cut into your paid session time. It is a discussion taking place prior to the first session to provide you and your fitness professional time to discuss your goals, any functional limitations, exercise and physical activity history, current and applicable past medical concerns as well as any other pertinent information.

The fitness professional will begin an introductory session to gather physical baseline measures from movement screenings, physical activity performance, body composition where applicable, and other assessments deemed necessary. Any time remaining will be used to train and provide some homework.
